Doormen to get photo ID cards

PENARTH clubbers are set to get tougher regulations and new levels of customer services for bouncers.

The Licensed Premises Door Supervisors' Registration Scheme is already in use in the Vale and is designed to raise the standards of door supervisors.

Doormen will be issued with a photo ID card which must be available for inspection, at any time, by any authorised officer.

PC Pete Godfrey, Licensing Officer for Barry and Penarth said: "The new registration scheme will make a safer environment for customers and door supervisors. It will make sure that the right calibre of person is on the door."

He added: "The scheme has started on Barry Island and will begin in Penarth and surrounding areas shortly."

The new scheme also introduces a code of practice that all door supervisors must adhere to. These include:

Door supervisors must always try to resolve conflicts without using force.

Force should be used only as a last resort and then only the minimum reasonable amount of force to restrain or eject any person.

Door supervisors must also control the number of persons admitted to the premises to prevent overcrowding.

Door supervisors must carry out duties fairly by not discriminating against any person on the grounds of race, sex, sexual orientation, disability or on any other grounds.

Door supervisors must not drink alcohol while on duty or prior to duty.

Steve Deane owner of Zen Security said: "It is a good thing because everyone should be licensed."

Senior licensing officer at the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Yvonne Lewis, said: "This is a valuable joint initiative, which we believe will make a real difference to the standard of the licensed premises door supervisors."

She added: "All licensed premises in the Vale of Glamorgan are working with the council and police to achieve this."
