Cinema review 'Star Trek: Nemesis

CONTINUING to voyage to galaxies far and wide, the crew of the Starship Enterprise boldly go into the unknown once again.

This is the tenth instalment of the Star Trek movie franchise and this all-new adventure has been billed as the "Next Generation's" last space outing.

This entertaining and well-crafted movie is a fitting finale.

Captain Jean Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) once again leads his crew as they travel to their long time adversary's home world of Romulus.

The Romulans want to make peace with the Federation but the invitation is only sent after the entire Romulan senate has been killed and the mastermind behind it, Shinzon (Tom Hardy), has seized control.

As with all great villains, he has a personal agenda to fulfil.

This one includes revealing to Captain Picard that they are related and using Data's long lost brother as bait to trap the Captain and his crew.

But Shinzon's motives verge on megalomania when his ultimate goal is revealed, as he is not content with just ruling Romulus. He wants to attack Earth.

So the crew of the Enterprise are drawn into a battle of wits as the cat and mouse game between Picard and Shinzon begins to heat up.

Director Stuart Baird has brought screenwriter John Logan's script to life, but there are too many low points.

As an avid fan of this genre, it is disappointing to see most of the main characters under developed.

The pivotal roles of Picard and Shinzon are well crafted by the actors, but the other cast members are reduced to bit parts.

But the computer generated imaging is perfection, as are all the special effects that were created for this visually spectacular movie.
