Stop war

LAST Saturday we joined the anti-war demonstration in Liverpool.

At midday it started out with about a thousand people with the predictable gathering of left-wing and trade union groups.

However the most encouraging thing was as the demonstration progressed through the city centre, hundreds of ordinary shoppers actually joined the march.

By the time the demonstration finished at the Victoria Monument it had gathered over two-and-a-half thousand people.

Many of those who joined were elderly residents of Liverpool who first hand recalled the human suffering of extensive bombing during the last World War.

If the Government believes that anti-war sentiment is only felt by those on the far left they are greatly mistaken.

Right across the board, people realise the British and other western governments have been trading and propping up murderous dictators for years.

Our troops face the prospect of being killed and maimed by our arms and technology exported to Iraq.

We do not want our soldiers or the Iraqi people sacrificed on the altar of George Bush's ego and the USA companies determination to get hold of Iraqi oil.

We appeal to every MP to speak up, promoting peace calls for courage and humanity
