Post offices to shut

PENARTH is to lose three of its main post offices, because of cutbacks by Royal Mail

Sully Terrace, Tennyson Road and Queens Road have all been announced as future closures by the Post Office.

This has prompted an angry response from residents.

Carol Lander, of Plymouth Road, who works at Morel Court residential home, told the Times: "It is devastating for the residents here and for the home where I work.

"There is no way most of the residents there can get to another post office. Some of them are over 90 years old."

Cardiff South and Penarth AM Lorraine Barrett said: "While post offices have to make a business case, I am asking for further consideration to be given to the impact on communities.

"Also, I want to know whether the remaining post offices will be able to cope.

"At the moment, Wood Street and Windsor Road post offices often have queues to the doors, and I doubt they could cope with many more customers."

Alison Pinner, press officer for the Post Office said: "The closures are part of 'urban reinvention'. Sub post offices are not surviving because of competition.

"We have been in consultation with Postwatch, the watchdog for postal services."
