DINAS Powys took a welcome break from league action to entertain Morriston in the third round of the Cynffig Motors Cup.
After the close encounter with Pontypridd the previous week, Dinas ran out comfortable winners with a 4-0 victory.
Morriston are in the lower reaches of Welsh League Division 2, but had fought hard in the meeting between the teams earlier this season, falling to a 4-1 defeat.
Early lead
For the second match in a row Dinas took an early lead when, after just two minutes, Paul Giles managed to spring the offside trap and draw the last defender.
He whipped the cross in and Jamie Dix maintained his run of scoring form by slotting in from close range.
Dinas were determined to extend their lead in the face of sporadic attacks from Morriston that rarely troubled the Dinas keeper Duncan Smith.
A free kick from the edge of the area by Neil Jeremy went close, as did a fine dummy and shot on the turn by Paul Giles.
A key turning point in the game was the dismissal of the Morriston centre half after less than 25 minutes for two bookable offences.
Just five minutes later Leigh Vick made another great break down the right hand side and hit over a high looping cross, which was headed home by Jamie Dix for his second goal of the game.
Dinas continued to press forward but went off at half time with a deserved 2-0 lead.
Dinas began the second half with a plethora of chances, Jamie Dix missed an easy opportunity and Neil Jeremy put two good chances over the crossbar.
Just ten minutes into the half, Jo Taylor made his second consecutive appearance from the bench, replacing Robbie King at the heart of the defence.
Hat-trick
On the hour, Paul Giles broke free into the 18 yard box and laid off a short pass to Jamie Dix who buried the ball into the back of the net to complete a well deserved hat trick and reach the impressive milestone of 30 goals for the season, averaging better than a goal per game.
Dinas made two further substitutions introducing Spencer Lamb and Rhodri Foote, whose pace stretched the ten men of Morriston.
In a rare attack, Morriston had a goal disallowed for offside but Dinas continued to push forward and were rewarded after 78 minutes.
A corner was swung in by Spencer Lamb, Paul Giles headed straight at the keeper and the rebound fell to Neil Jeremy who made the score 4-0.
Promotion push
Dinas were unable to add to their lead although Spencer Lamb came close and Jamie Dix fired across the goal with the keeper beaten.
Next week the two teams meet again at the Murch in the league in a 2.15pm kick off, where Dinas will want to carry on their promotion push whilst Morriston will be out for revenge.
Triumph
Dinas Thirds showed great character in pulling back a 2-1 half time deficit to run out 4-2 winners against Highcroft. Dinas fought hard against a big physical side and triumphed with goals from Leon Duke, Owain Williams, David Stimpson and Andrew Salvidge.
