A PLAN for luxury flats in Penarth looks set to go ahead, despite the objections of the town council.
Vale of Glamorgan planners say the flats on Sully Road should be built, even though Penarth Town Council fear traffic dangers.
The town council have also complained of visual intrusion from the proposed development, which lies on the outskirts of Penarth and Dinas Powys.
Vale council officers have recommended approval of the plan to convert the former Hazlehurst nursing home into 11 luxury flats.
The original proposal was for 14 flats, and included three triple garages, but the developers agreed to reduce the size of the scheme after objections from both councils.
But the town council were not satisfied, and have continued to complain about the extra traffic on an already busy road.
However, the Vale's highways engineer has not objected.
Welsh Water threw up another possible stumbling block, when they said the development should wait until April 2006.
They fear the sewage system won't cope until improvements are carried out in the next few years.
But the Vale's Environ-mental Director Bob Quick, in a report to the planning committee, says that's unreasonable, bearing in mind the fact that the existing use of the building is a 32-bed nursing home.
