DVD review 'Kung Pow: Enter the Fist'

OH DEAR, oh dear, oh dear. Kung Pow: Enter the Fist is just as ridiculous as it looks on the front cover of the DVD.

Steve Oedekerk, director of films like Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, The Nutty Professor and Jimmy Neutron, has decided to write and star in his own movie. It may be harsh, but perhaps he shouldn't have bothered.

The film aims to poke fun at the karate genre and it could be grudgingly admitted that it is done quite cleverly.

Oederkerk has found a little-known martial arts flick from the 1970s and taken advantage of its obscurity. He has inserted new scenes, new dialogue, and himself, into it.

The plot - if it can be called that without Trading Standards getting involved - centres on a legendary warrior (Oederkerk) wandering the countryside waiting to avenge his family's death.

Brought up by rodents(!) The Chosen One searches for the murderous Master Pain - who also happens to be known as Betty.

Could this get any worse?

Well, if you take into account the subtitled dog (which is probably the funnies bit) and the dubious comic script, the answer may become apparent.

It might be advisable to view this flick before committing any cash to it, just in case.
