New cafe licenced

A SULLY councillor has raised concerns about a caravan site getting a liquor licence.

The Spinney caravan park in Beach Road has been successful in obtaining a licence for the new cafe and restaurant on the site.

But Vale councillor Anthony Ernest said this could pose problems for the area.

He said: "Clearly there are concerns about the possible impact of yet another licensed premises on this beautiful part of the coastline.

There is statutory protection under planning policies for this area."

Licensing officer for Penarth, PC Peter Godfrey said: "All applicants are required to announce their intention to get a licence.

They have to put the proposal in the local paper and make the public aware by putting notices on the premises.

The owner Gordon Hadfield has complied with all these requirements. Every check has been passed by the premises"

Owner Gordon Hadfield said: "There has been a licensed premises here since the 1970's which lapsed in the 1990's which was the Spinney Manor House.

So this is not new for the area and the public are only allowed to come to the premises until 5pm.

After that residents of the caravan site can use the cafe and privately booked parties. I'm sure there will not be any trouble."

But Sully Community Council also voiced their concerns about the licence being granted.

The Council clerk, Brian Daniel said: "The Council were worried about the possible off-licence capability.

We have no objection to the actual licence being passed but our concerns were about young drinkers.

We are not suggesting that the drink would be available to them there.

But we have a problem with youngsters and under-age drinking which is linked to vandalism."
