A PENARTH dad is hoping to raise enough cash for a treatment which could save his life.
Robert Rowley, 40, of Paget Road was diagnosed with a rare form of bowel cancer eight months ago.
And now the only hope for him, his wife Mandy and two children James, 14 and Sophie, 9, is revolutionary treatment in a Canadian hospital.
Robert, who has lived in Penarth since 1983, says doctors in this country do not have the technology to treat him and his only hope is to raise the cash to go abroad.
Now, the family has set up a campaign to raise the thousands needed to give him a chance of survival.
Robert's mum-in-law Dawn Flanagan of High View, Penarth, has taken up the challenge to raise the money.
She told the Times: "We want to raise the money as soon as possible so that Robert has the best chance to get the treatment.
First Robert will go to a clinic in New Mexico which boosts the immune system and where the patients only have organic food.
This clinic costs almost £3,000 a week and Robert will need to stay for three.
"He will then go for tests in Canada."
She added: "We have held two events already and raised £1,600. We are very grateful for the donations people have already given."
The next event is a bingo night at the Conservative Club, Stanwell Road, Penarth on Thursday, February 27, which starts at 8.30pm.
A number of other events are planned such as a clairvoyant night on Wednesday, March 26, in the Cons Club and on the Saturday April 26 there is a Stereophonics tribute band at Cardiff University.
At the above event Kelly Jones and Stuart Cable will hopefully be there.
Robert's wife Mandy said: "We are so surprised that Robert has so much support from friends and even people who do not know him."
