IN REPLY to Labour AM Lorraine Barrett's letter "Post Debate", which hypocritically attempts to justify the closures of up to one third of post offices nearly six years after her party has been in government.
After the announcement of the closure of three of Penarth's post offices, she conducts a belated petition, clearly a damage limitation exercise.
In her letter to the Penarth Times she puts forward arguments in favour of the post office closures, ignoring the central role played by the government with their announcement that from 2003, order books and giro cheques will be discontinued and benefits paid by electronic systems. Hypocrisy proved beyond reasonable doubt.
With 20 percent of people over the age of 65 years, a quarter of a million people with disabilities and a higher rate of unemployment in Wales, Conservatives will continue to "bleat", as she says, speaking for the vulnerable elderly and disadvantaged in our community who value their post offices and wish to retain them.
