Left in coma after 'a row'

A MAN appeared in Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday for allegedly putting a footballer into a coma after a match in Penarth.

Ryan Prosser, 19, of Bishopston Road, Ely, denies causing grievous bodily harm with intent - but admits inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Cardiff Crown Court heard how Jamie Pritchard, 24, went out drinking with friends after playing a Sunday league game in the town in August.

Following a row at closing time, it is alleged he was kicked in the head by Prosser and put into a coma.

Restaurant supervisor Mr Pritchard had spent the day playing football with his team in Penarth before going to the pub.

Prosecutor Jeremy Jenkins told Cardiff Crown Court that Mr Pritchard had gone looking for a house party after leaving the pub - but ended up in a row with Prosser's family.

He said: "The party did not take place and he found himself outside some shops near Prosser's flat.

"Prosser's mother became concerned at the fact that Mr Pritchard was hanging around. She was afraid her car would be damaged."

The court heard Prosser went out to "remonstrate" with Mr Pritchard - then kicked him hard in the face.

.Mr Prichard remains in a coma. The trial continues.
