MBE well deserved

A WOMAN from Penarth has been given an MBE as recognition for her voluntary work. Jane Green,is a leading figure in a local voluntary organisation.

She was awarded the MBE by Prince Charles on Friday February 28 at a ceremony in Cardiff University.

Her 92-year-old mother Margaret Harrison, of Stanwell Road said: "I am very proud of my daughter, she has done voluntary work for 16 years and she deserves the accolade.

My daughter is in India for a few weeks."

Shirley said: "As a child Jane had to learn how to walk again and I think that is why she has such a compassionate nature.

"I know that her work with the Cardiff Community Health Council was a reason why she was awarded the MBE. Martin Jenkins a leading member of the Council put her name forward."

As a child Jane went to Victoria Primary School and later went to Penarth Grammar now Stanwell School.

She left her education and went to live in London where a career in administration beckoned.

While living there Jane met her late husband Colin Green whose family are from Cardiff.

The couple have a 23-year-old daughter with a degree in Biochemistry from Oxford University who is now studying for her doctorate.

Margaret Harrison said: "My daughter is following in her grandfathers footsteps.

He was a great man who owned a coal business in Cardiff. He was a pioneer when he became a founder of Cardiff City Football Club."

She added: "I know Jane will be pleased that a story can be put in the newspaper.

She deserves all the praise that is given to her.

I am sure she will continue to help those who need assistance."
