Rock star is to appear for fund

A TERMINALLY Ill Penarth man's appeal to raise money for vital cancer treatment has been boosted by the promise of an appearance by a Welsh rock star.

Stereophonics band member Stuart Cable has agreed to make a special appearance for the Robert Rowley cancer appeal at a tribute concert.

As reported in last week's Times, father-of-two Robert needs £40,000 to cover the cost of travel and treatment in the US and Canada.

The dad of James, 14, and Sophie 9, and his wife Mandy are now hoping Stuart's appearance will boost funds at their next fundraiser.

Tribute band Stereotonics will be playing at the Cardiff University Union on Friday April 25.

Dawn Flanagan, Robert's mother-in-law is organising events and helping to collect the money.

She said: "We have raised upwards of £2,500 so far but we have many more events to come. We are grateful for the help people have given.

"There were about 100 spectators at the Westley Court concert on Saturday, March 1. We were very pleased with the turnout.

"Money is coming at a slow but steady rate so we are very hopeful of raising the amount needed."

One event at the Conservative Club, Penarth was a prize bingo night which brought in almost £300.

A Penarth lady Valery Davies of Windsor Road was delighted by a taxi drivers generosity.

She said: "A K-Tax driver told me to keep my fare so I could donate it to the bingo night. I would like to thank him for such a kind gesture."

After the last article in the Times generous people made donations such as Ann Mules Keep Fit in Albert Road and Billy Hicks and Esme Clarke.

Fundraiser Dawn said: "If there are any pubs in Penarth who could put a raffle on for the cause that would be great for us."
