DVD review Dog soldiers

THIS ALL-British film can certainly howl up a storm even though there are very few budget-breaking names in it.

Dog Soldiers stars Sean Pertwee and Kevin McKidd as the leaders of a band of British soldiers sent to the Scottish Highlands on special training manoeuvres.

They stumble upon Liam Cunningham who plays the twisted Captain Ryan.

He is found injured, apparently the sole survivor of his Special Operations team that was literally torn to pieces.

Ryan refuses to disclose the secret behind his mission, even though whoever or whatever ate his men seems hungry for seconds.

Help arrives in the form of local girl Megan, who shelters them in a deserted farmhouse deep in the forest.

Stuck without a telephone, no escape route, little ammunition and way too much night, it's a battle against the beasts.

While the plot is slightly predictable, 'Dog Soldiers' fuses wicked black humour with a few edge-of-the-seat moments.

It even manages to slip in a small twist at the end of the movie.
