EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of March 17 1978:

Ratepayers throughout Penarth, Dinas Powis and Sully will pay less next year, thanks mainly to a 5p cut in the rate levied by the Vale Council.

Trooper Jeffrey Calnan, aged 20, of the Queen's Dragoon Guards, had a change from duties with his armoured regiment as a surveillance troop operator, when he took to the slopes of the Bavarian Allgau to compete for his unit in the British Nordic Ski Championships.

Petra Griffiths, a former pupil at Penarth County Secondary School, was responsible for the first draft of a new tenancy agreement which has been adopted in two English towns.

Lance Cooksey, 13-year-old pupil of St Cyres Comprehensive School, Penarth, and a member of Penarth Amateur Boxing Club, is an exciting hard hitting prospect who is in with a great chance of winning the 54 KG British Schoolboy Boxing Crown for his school.

Mr Aubrey Gambold, Administrator at the Sports Council for Wales, opened the new changing rooms at Penarth Rugby Club last Friday.

Marguerite Prisk of Plymouth Road, Penarth, has been awarded a Diploma of Excellence in the Scottish Open Poetry Competition for the third successive year.
