Mr and Mrs Chris Minchinton, of The Clifton tobacco and confectionery shop, Station Road, Dinas Powis, have won two £100 holiday vouchers in a national "Globe-trotter" competition run by the confectionery firm Trebor.

Mr W K Railton retires this week after six years as headmaster of St Cyres Comprehensive School, Penarth.

Two schemes which could have a significant effect on the future of sporting activities in Penarth have been spelled out to members of the Vale Leisure Services Committee. Members considered a request for a £5,000 council grant towards the setting up of a £40,000 mini sports centre at Albert Road.

Addressing Penarth Young Socialists at the Plymouth Hotel Mr Peter Stead, the prospective candidate for the Barry constituency spoke on the role of the parliamentary candidate.

Twenty-six-year-old Kenneth Pugh, of Smithies Avenue, Sully, will be captain of the RAF team who meet the Navy in a rugby match at Twickenham on Saturday.
