Car parking

AT TIMES, I read the Penarth Times and despair.

Not, I hasten to add, due to any editorial deficiencies, but the apparent inability of our elected representatives to prioritise and resolve the real issues vital to the welfare of the town.

A case in point is the current pedestrianisation initiative mentioned in the Penarth Times, of March 20. No doubt all very sensible, but not essential.

However, the major traffic problem in Penarth is the lack of official off-street parking.

Some years ago, I read in the Penarth Times an excellent suggestion by an engineer, who lives in the town, to raise a structure over the railway cutting behind Hickman Road between Victoria Bridge and Stanwell Road Bridge.

At a rough guess, could easily provide 100 or so parking places.

Such an elevated prefabricated structure should not be all that expensive and suitable access points could be ready made by using existing space at the ends of the bridges.
