Memorial

EILEEN Holder was upset at the inscription "in grateful memory of the men of Penarth who died for their country in the Great War" with no reference to the women who died (Penarth Times, March 6, 2003).

Although her great aunt Mrs Emily Pickford's name was recorded on the memorial at Alexandra Park.

Mrs Pickford (nee Pearn), was a civilian entertainer who tragically died on Friday, February 7, 1919, in a motor car accident after the end of the Great War.

Her husband was a proprietor of the Penarth Times.

Like Ms Holder I am also related to the family.
