I read with interest Charles Booth's report on playgrounds in Penarth, and I am not surprised.
It is perhaps unreasonable to think that the Vale of Glamorgan Council has unlimited resources to go around fixing swings, but there should be safe places for children to play.
The picture on the front page was quite shocking.
To think that a child would be better off playing next to a busy road than in an area littered with broken equipment offering nothing but sharp and rusting edges is terrible.
Not only will the children suffer but so will the parents ultimately. If an accident happens that could have been prevented - what then?
Is there no scheme that could be thought of?
Perhaps parents could form responsible groups that take it in turn to look after parks in their locality.
This vicious cycle certainly makes it look like the vandals are winning.
