More traffic

IN RECENT years I have become concerned about the steadily increasing volume of traffic moving through the Victoria Road/Stanwell Road junction in Penarth.

At peak periods, especially around school leaving and set down times, and at the start and end of the working day, there is a queue of vehicles stretching from the Stanwell/Plymouth Roads traffic lights well back and down Victoria Road, some 300 yards or more in distance.

Vehicles have a double delay - once trying to make a right turn onto Stanwell Road from the T-junction with Victoria Road, and then queuing for several changes of the lights themselves at Plymouth Road.

I believe that it is now time to consider installing a second set of traffic lights outside the Conservative Club, directly linked to those at the Plymouth Road junction.

Properly phased, these lights would allow traffic to filter out of Victoria Road, and move forward through the second junction with minimal delays, rather than taking up to five or six minutes for a 100 yard section, as at present.

I have already suggested this to Vale officers as a future project, but would be interested to gauge reaction from local residents and Penarth Times readers.
