PENARTH police are hunting two women who tried to burgle an elderly resident.
The women used distraction techniques on Saturday April 5 to attempt to gain access to the 87-year-old's Andrews Road home, but they were foiled by a neighbour.
A police spokesman said: "An unknown female knocked on the front door of the elderly lady's ground floor flat, asking if the car outside was hers.
"The lady then took her around the rear the premises to the flat above hers.
But while this was happening, another unknown female entered the flat via the insecure front door.
"At this point, a neighbour checked if the elderly lady was ok and as a result, both females ran from the scene via the side exit gate.
It is believed that no property was taken on this occasion."
Officers are now appealing to the public to help them catch the would-be burglars and have issued descriptions.
The first suspect is described as white, approximately 18 - 20-years-old, slim build, 5ft4ins to 5ft5ins tall, with straight, fair, shoulder-length hair.
She was nicely spoken, with a local accent, appeared nervous and hesitant and was wearing a summer floral dress.
The second suspect is described as white, approximately 45 years old, medium to stocky build, approx. 5ft tall, with straight and dark bobbed hair, a dark, sun-tanned complexion, a full, round face, and extremely freckled arms.
She was wearing a low-cut, light- weight top and a pleated skirt. This suspect was also nicely spoken with a local accent. She is also believed to be a smoker.
Detective Sergeant Joe Sweeney told the Times: "Unfortunately, this lady is a repeat victim of this type of crime.
We fear that these persons are deliberately targeting this lady in a hope to distract her while they try to commit a burglary.
We are appealing for anyone who recognises the e-fit or who has other information to contact Penarth CID on (02920) 527354 or Crimestop-pers on 0800 555 111."
