Two Penarth gymnasts in British top ten

NEWS of success following British Squad trials has been received by Penarth Gym Club members Sarah Toshack and Lauren Jones.

The British Gymnastics Association squad system provides training opportunities for all disciplines of the sport including that for gymnasts with disabilities.

This is the British squad for which Sarah and Lauren were aiming when they trialled earlier this year.

The testing process lasted a whole day and compared the strengths, flexibilities and skill accomplishments of the best of British special needs gymnasts.

Hopefuls came from all parts of the UK and it was plain to see that out local girls were going to have a hard fight to gain squad places.

Only 10 gymnasts were to be selected so imagine the elation of all concerned when both girls received letters declaring their success.

Congratulations also to Jeff Savory, who has been appointed as Chief Coach to the Special Needs Squad of the Welsh Gymnastics Association.

Jeff succeeds retiring coach Gwynedd Lingard who will continue in an assistant capacity.

Gwynedd said: Jeff's commitment, motivating qualities and knowledge make him a natural for the job."

Why not help the club by supporting their Spring Fair and Table Top Sale at the Pier Pavilion from 12.30pm to 3pm this Saturday?
