DVD review The Guru

WHEN the American dream turns into the American nightmare for Indian dance teacher Ramu Gupta (Jimi Mistry), he loses all hope of becoming a household name.

But landing the part of an ethnic stud in a dubious movie changes his whole life - especially when he meets co-star Sharonna (Heather Graham). Through a bizarre turn of events, Ramu becomes 'The Guru'.

Freeing the minds of New York's elite, and attracting the flighty Lexi to him, Ramu becomes a sexual leader and emotional healer.

But there is a problem.

His wisdom comes from the sweet Sharonna, who has sworn him to secrecy because her fiance has no idea what she really does for a living.

In turn, he starts falling for her in a big way.

On the day of the wedding, Ramu realises that his ambition to get rich and famous will be nothing if he hasn't got Sharonna by his side.

Can he get to the church in time?

When you've got a New York taxi driver at the helm of your top-of-the-range Mercedes convertible, probably!

This is such a lovely, feel-good film, with a cracking soundtrack.

Imagine Grease meets Bolliwood, and you've got a fair idea of what you're in for with 'The Guru'.
