Rresidents call for wheely bins

A DISGRUNTLED Penarth resident claims he is 'sick' of the service being provided for the collection of his rubbish.

Alun Davies, of Chandlers Way, is unhappy that bags are simply placed on the roadside to be picked up or just put in plastic bins.

Mr Davies said: "I have lived all over Britain and in Germany and without fail they have had wheely bins for the rubbish.

"I find it strange that when I lived in Dinas Powys there was a service for these type of bins but not here.

Although there is a collection of red wheely bins down the road. I have even gone to the expense of buying my own wheely but it still can not be collected." Bins are picked up on Thursdays.

Developer Mr Davies added: "It is a pre-Victorian system to have black bags full of rubbish which are invariably attacked by seagulls.

On a bin day the streets are like a lane in Baghdad not the Vale of Glamorgan."

Another resident of the Chandlers Way houses, Alwyn Evans, said: "I have to agree with Alun as I can not understand why there is no way of collecting our bins.

"I must admit that these houses were not built to take wheely bins but why is there no capacity to empty wheelies.

We know that there is a pick up of this type of receptacle down the road."

He added: "Alun has been told that there are no lorries to pick up the rubbish in this way. But we have seen the lorry which has a device to take the wheelies."

Vale of Glamorgan were given a chance to reply to the concerns of the residents but had not come back to the Times up to press.

Mr Davies said: "The all round service is not good enough because the black bags can be heavy and are not hygienic."
