A BUDDING Penarth DJ has won a place in the final of Red Dragon FM's Reach for a Star talent contest.
Sam Gould, of Salisbury Avenue, wowed the panel of judges with his skills at the Dolphin Bar in Barry Island last week.
The nineteen-year-old, who already DJs at discos, said that being a DJ is his dream. "I just love DJ-ing, that's all I want to do. I've been doing it since I was 15."
He will now go on to the next heat of the competition, along with contestants from the three other venues.
The contest is touring South Wales, searching for bright new talent, whether it is singing, TV and radio presenting or stand-up comedy.
The overall winner will win £1,000, have the chance to be trained by industry experts and go on air for Red Dragon FM.
The other finalists, who sang songs by artists including Christina Aguilera and Pink, are hoping to win a trip to Wales' famous Pop Factory, where they will be able to strut their stuff in the studio.
On the judging panel were Red Dragon DJ Bobby McVay, Capital Gold's Tony Wright and ex Hear'Say band member Noel Sullivan.
Noel said he was happy to be judging the contest. "It was nice to be on the other side of the judging table for a change.
"Basically, we're just looking for great talent, along with a great performance."
Wannabes lucky enough to make it on stage are given two minutes to impress the judges with their talent.
The contestants, who have been cheered on by friends and family, performed various comedy routines and a mixture of songs, including Alanis Morrisette's Ironic and the Jungle Book's I Wanna Be Like You.
The final of the competition will be on Friday May 23, where Sam will have one more chance to impress the panel.
