I HAVE never written to complain to anyone before but I feel very strongly in my annoyance of the Penarth council.
I really do feel that they never ever take any notice of the public or the traders of Penarth. There are three things that really do annoy myself and hundreds of others that I have talked to.
I think the one-way system was designed by a seven-year-old. It's parking we need in Penarth and they have eliminated lots of parking spaces. I am also a very good customer of PB Furnishers in Glebe Street and have seen large lorries, sometimes with trailers, delivering furniture. How are they going to cope driving through Glebe Street and then manoeuvring into Albert Road? It's ridiculous!
I feel whoever agreed to IKEA opening up by Asda in Cardiff Bay needs their head examined. Penarth people will never be able to get past the Barons Court. Last Saturday traffic came to a stop, and that was on an ordinary weekend. Also, what about the traders of Penarth? Opening IKEA will take away all their business. God help us.
I am very annoyed that the council has agreed to let the charity shops in Penarth sell new goods, once again letting down the genuine traders, who pay extortionate rates. Don't they care about the shops in Penarth? They will when it becomes a ghost town, with no rates to collect. Then I suppose they will put this burden onto the already over-taxed private sector.
Please, I beg the council to give some consideration to the people who pay their wages, to listen to us and the traders. To bring the visitors back to Penarth again, there is a simple way to ease the parking problem: Make Windsor Road a "one-way system" with drive-into-the-kerb parking places (as outside the Railway Hotel) and the same with Plassey Street - in the opposite direction. This would alleviate the need to build an expensive car park and at the same time treble the amount of parking spaces.
As I said before, I've never done this before, but I do feel very bitter about my complaints, about the way the council is running our town. We must have the last say on projects that affect all of us.
Listen to us.
