THE WINDSOR Bowls Club Ladies teams have enjoyed their best week of the season to date.
On Monday they left Rumney Gardens with a full quota of points from their Evening League match. Joan Bryn Jones' rink won 16-14 and Mavis Pugh's rink did even better by recording a 16-11 win.
This was followed up on Thursday with a resounding home victory in the afternoon league against Fairwater.
All three rinks recorded victories with Joan Bryn Jones' rink winning 22-12, Mavis Pugh's rink winning 24-22 and Joyce Middleton's rink winning 24-13. Against these successes, the minor blemish of a Cadoxton Shield defeat can be overlooked.
There was also some success for the men's teams in both the PG1 and PG2 fixtures against Mackintosh on Saturday.
The first team comprehensively overcame their opponents 85-66 with the rinks skipped by Mal Hope and Ken McLeod leading the way.
The PG2 Team were harder pressed, but eventually won 78-74. The heroes were Mike Fullbrook's and Ken Trenchard's rinks.
Earlier in the week, the Alliance team visited a damp and dismal Llantwit Major in the Munro Cup and suffered a 19-35 defeat.
Simultaneously, the Llantwit Major second team were inflicting a narrow 49-51 shot defeat on Windsor in an equally damp and dismal Penarth.
The other results this week were a 62-61 win in the Alliance against Cardiff Athletic and defeat in the friendly against the South Wales Police.
On a more personal note, we were glad to welcome back John Gronow and Ray Simpson from their adventures in South Africa with the Welsh wheelchair bowlers' team.
They both enjoyed some success, with John equal top on points in his singles group and only failing to progress to the semi-finals on shot difference.
Ray, with his partner Clive Gulley, reached the semi-finals of the pairs, only to be beaten by the eventual winners.
Some measure of their achievement can be gauged by the fact that they were the only non-South African semi-finalists in either the singles or pairs competitions.
