Anger over plan for yacht business

A FURIOUS row about a planning application has erupted in Penarth Marina.

The building concerned at 25 Plas Glen Rosa, is owned by James Law, of St Nicholas in the Vale of Glamorgan, and is the proposed base for his business, Trader Yachts Wales.

A number of residents in the Plas Glen Rosa area of the Marina are worried that if Mr Law's application is successful, it may be a catalyst for other business projects to move into the Marina.

Caron Oxenham, of Port Way, said: "We do not want to see businesses in a residential area.

If Mr Law obtains the planning permission, there may well be trade events which will mean more traffic. The road is already busy and has insufficient parking."

Responding, Mr Law said: "My business won't be selling the smaller boats which the normal person can afford.

We will sell boats from £100,000 to £1 million and above.

"These are very exclusive boats to own, and there will only be a handful of clients looking around at any one time."

Residents have also expressed concern over the effect a business in the area may have on marine life.

Susan Sessions, of Penarth Marina, says she is opposed to the application, because she believes it could lead to more traffic and increased noise from servicing the boats.

Responding, Mr Law said: "We will be using the existing Marina service yard for any repairs that are needed.

As for parking, we will create more spaces in front of the building and we do have the use of a fenced car park if need be."
