Disgusted

MY DAUGHTER came home for the weekend from Whitland and after going shopping she drove up around Church Place South and St Augustine's Church.

I expected the graveyard and paths to be as tidy as Lower Penarth cemetery is.

I know the church needs repairing, but what we saw was disgusting.

We were astounded and I felt broken-hearted at the deplorable and gutted state such a distinguished landmark of Penarth, which Top Church is, has been allowed to get into.

One can't see the graves for the overgrowth.

The walls have crumbled into large gaps ready to collapse and the paths leading into the church, overlooking the channel, are an eyesore as they are being used as a rubbish dump.

Steps are broken, gates rusted, broken and flung on the ground along with other rubbish.

Years ago there wasn't much money around yet St Augustine's always had flowers on the graves and the biggest part of my family are buried there, except my three sisters.

Surely the Church of England can employ someone to tidy it up and give St Augustine's back its dignity. It's not only the church which needs repairing, every inch of it needs attention.

St Augustine's Church is part of our history and well worth saving.
