Windsor Tennis Club LTA tournament winners

AT THE prestigious LTA sanctioned tournament held recently at Windsor Lawn Tennis Club a feast of tennis delighted spectators.

This tournament for 14 and under boys always attracts a great deal of local competition, and in all about 39 matches refereed by club coach Rob Cunningham took place over the two days.

Thanks to the effort of club members there was plenty of hospitality on offer which was very comforting to those who braved the wind and rain to watch the future tennis stars play some thrilling tennis.

All the matches were played with great spirit and sportsmanship with all competitors a credit to themselves and their clubs.

Four finals were played on the second day with Christopher Williams from Newport overall winner of the tournament and Division 5 winner.

Tournament runner-up was Bleddyn Bird from Caerphilly - whose match against Chris produced some beautiful tennis- a real exhibition match. James Howell, also from Newport, was Division 5 runner-up - and was playing his first tournament since hip surgery two months previously.

Division 6 final was played between club member Tom Cole and Bleddyn Bird.

This match produced some exciting tennis with Bleddyn emerging as the winner.

In Division 7, club member Daniel Hughes played Michael Hooper from Dinas Powys in the final.

Both boys played some excellent tennis over the whole weekend with Dan managing to fit in some Eisteddfod rehearsals in between his matches. The final went to a nail biting tie-break with Dan clinching a win

In the final of the Plate competition Jordan Fleming beat Sam Steer - they were among six entries from Cowbridge LTC - all boys playing their first year of competitive tennis.
