A BARD who showed her disgust at Penarth pier's disrepair has been inundated with words of support.
An article in last weeks Times featured June Elias who spoke of how her poetry has changed from celebrating to bemoaning the state of the pier over the last 40 years.
The story also confirmed that the landmark would stay in the hands of the Vale Council who will decide what to do with it.
Mrs Elias of Craven Walk said: "I am very glad that the pier will remain in the control of the council, but I hope that something will be done very soon to improve it.
"It is a terrible shame what has happened to a great landmark which we were entrusted with by past generations.
"On the streets of Penarth I have had so many people telling me how supportive they are about the article. They all agree that the pier should be used for the town."
There are other issues which the pro-active Penarth resident wants to be aired.
She said: "I think it is time for Penarth to wake up and take note of what is happening in their town. We need to be more of a community to tackle issues.
"The pier should be just the start for Penarth to move on. We need people to come here with innovative ideas to brighten up the town and attract more visitors to the area.
"I know there has to be a balance between culture and the finance because unfortunately everything boils down to money.
"We have a beautiful seafront which should be used to our advantage and the pier has to be renovated for the future.
"Can you imagine if we went to mainland Europe and saw this mess on a seafront - we would say what a disgrace it was!"
