THE FRONT page of the Penarth Times, on June 5, courageously reported yet another destruction of Penarth's Victorian heritage.
I refer to the proposed demolition of the Grade II Listed Victorian baths site on the sea front, in order to create yet another block of flats!
But, in this case, there was a difference. Instead of questioning the issues involved in this major historical change to the Esplanade, the Penarth Times reporter, John Gilheaney, merely described the existing site, (no photo printed), as a "waterfront eyesore".
However, underneath a half-page artist's impression, he went on to praise the proposed new development as "stunning", "a luxury scheme", which would be "developed to the highest architectural and design standards".
I have to say that, even by the standards set by the Penarth Times, this is one of the most biased reports I have read. As for you, John, I think you need to decide whether you are an independent local journalist, or yet another stooge for local property developers; you can't be both.
