IT'LL cost you around £600,000, and it's billed as the most exclusive penthouse in Wales - would you like to have the Bute Penthouse in Penarth Haven as your second home?

You would think the person who buys this particular property would spend the bulk of their free time enjoying its features.

But when the Times viewed the prestigious penthouse, Jane George, sales negotiator with Bellway Homes, told us that despite its price, some viewers see it only as a part-time residence.

"We've had interest from Welsh rugby internationals, business people who commute to London and people from Thailand and Australia have viewed it too," said Jane.

"Some people who don't live in Cardiff but work here have said they could use the penthouse as a second home during their time in the city.

"Others consider buying it and then renting it out. It wouldn't necessarily be someone's main base despite its price."

The penthouse has vast views over Penarth Marina and Cardiff Bay. And, amongst a variety of features, has a large roof terrace, full underfloor heating and is designed by top interior designer Lesley Taylor.

"The views are the most novel thing about the property," says Jane.

"You can see the Millennium Stadium from the flat's living room. When Cardiff City won their recent play-off there was a wonderful view of the fireworks display that took place after the game."

Jane says interest in the penthouse has been steady, even though the way Penarth is perceived has dimmed in recent times.

"I think at one time Penarth was the elite place to live, but Cardiff Bay has taken over.

"We (Bellway) will soon be building approximately 600 units over two years at Prospect Place, and the amount of interest we've had for them has been unbelievable."
