A RECORD entry of 48 mums, dads and their offspring joined in the fun at Windsor's annual Family Tournament on a lovely warm and sunny Sunday, using all seven courts and finishing just before the loudest clap of thunder the children had ever hears!
A Mini Red event was run by club coach, Rob Cunningham, in round robin format in two age groups - 5/6 years and 7/8 years, with the children and their parents using mini racquets. In the older group clear winners were Henry Young with his Dad, Dean. In the 5/6 years box, competition was keen and a draw meant a final between Luke Swain and Natalie Evans, and their Mums, Cath and Fiona, this produced probably the longest rally of the whole day - with Fiona and Natalie the winners.
On the bottom courts it was the turn of the older juniors and their parents, this time played as an American Tournament. It was good to see lots of new members and their families down to play and spectate, the winning junior was Tom Sidford, who narrowly pipped Lowri Hughes and James Groves to the post by one point, with Ian Hughes the winning parent, beating Peter Groves and Steve Sidford, also by one point.
A very relaxed day punctuated with a barbecue at lunch time and a bar to provide welcome refreshments for the adults, with plenty of Pimms on offer to celebrate the start of Wimbledon.
