A DOG has miraculously survived a fall of 60ft from one of Penarth's cliff-top paths.
Dexter, a three-and-a-half-year-old crossbreed, tumbled over the edge of the Cliff Walk near Cliff Parade on Monday, June 16, but survived with severe bruising as his main injury.
Dexter's owner, Grant Davies, a 40-year-old father-of-two from Redlands Road, said: "I heard him yelp twice and then realised he must have fallen over the edge of the cliff. I thought that was it, he was dead, but to my great relief he was injured - but alive.
"I don't have a mobile phone so I could not ring the emergency services and I noticed a farmer was working in a field nearby. I stopped him and used his phone to contact the coastguard. They came to Dexter's rescue as he had crashed to the beach below.
"We went to the vets but he was okay thankfully and has some injuries. The vet renamed him 'Lucky.'
"He is not just a pet to us, Dexter is part of the family and my children have grown up with him in their lives."
Dexter will have to stay indoors for four weeks until he has healed.
Mr Davies says he was horrified there were no warning signs along the path.
He said: "It was the first time I have walked up there.
"There are no warnings along the path and there is not the greatest protection for animals and people alike."
Vale of Glamorgan Council spokesman Estelle Hitchon said: "We have spoken to Mr Davies about the path and his concerns.
"We are happy to say that we are going to erect signs along the path to warn walkers.
"We will also plant more foliage in areas of the walk which are less protected."
