SULLY Community Council are developing a strategy to tackle their youth disturbance problem.
The council has been battling the problem of 'alcohol-fuelled' vandalism and general disturbances by youths for many years.
In last week's Times the council stated that there had been a recent escalation of trouble in the area.
Chairman of Sully Community Council, Malcolm Davies told us: "We have been liaising with departments in the Vale Council to find a solution which will help to alleviate the tension. The outreach worker for the area will be talking with the youths about the trouble. "We have also spoken to the Vale Council about the possibility of CCTV in the most vulnerable areas.
"We will be meeting a delegation from the youth club to discuss the problems we have experienced."
Penarth chief inspector, Sid Griffiths, said: "I met with Sully Community Council because of the disturbances in their area.
"There has been a recent spate of problems, but that does not mean all the youths are troublesome.
"It is just a few that spoil the fun of others with their mindless, alcohol-fuelled vandalism. "The use of drugs are not a problem in our experience, but alcohol is.
"It is persistent perpetrators that carry out the damage.
"Unfortunately, Jubilee Hall, where a lot of the vandalism occurs, is in such an isolated place.
"It is very difficult to patrol an area like that.
"There are four police constables available per shift, and there are regular patrols through the area.
"Of course we would like more police, as most areas would.
"But generally, Sully is a well- ordered community."
Mr Davies added: "We have offered the Jubilee Hall for discos, so that the youths can enjoy the facilities.
"We have also agreed a talent contest can be held in the hall.
"We hope that this helps to alleviate the problems we have been experiencing in recent times."
