Power supply to be transformed

COUNCILLOR Anthony Ernest has welcomed the news that the coastal village of Sully is due for a power supplies transmission upgrade.

County councillor Ernest, who recently held talks with the district manager of Western Power, suppliers of electricity to the village, said after the meeting: "Following concerns that were raised with me by local residents, after a number of homes in Sully lost power last winter, I took up the issue with Western Power's senior management.

"Now, as a result of a very useful site meeting last week, I have received assurances that a number of steps are being taken to enhance the integrity of all supplies into and around Sully.

"Several high voltage links, currently running overhead, are to be undergrounded, new transformers installed where needed, and a number of overhead poles removed, together with their associated cabling.

"All this will help overcome any potential for failure through storm conditions, such as those which occurred on October 27 last year, when Western Power in South Wales recorded the highest wind speeds in the UK.

"Winds reached 97 mph at Mumbles, Swansea, and local power was lost in Sully, fortunately only for a few hours", Cllr Ernest continued.

He concluded: "I feel certain that Sully residents can now look forward to greater security of their individual supply in poor weather conditions, and I am grateful for the prompt response of the energy company, to the concerns that I raised with them."
