Mr Graham Poole, of Mountjoy Place Penarth was presented with a bravery award by Vale Mayor Cllr John Cotter, Supt Gwyn Jones of Barry Police Division was also present.

Mr Richard Penson, RNLI, was warmly welcomed by the chairman, Mrs Kay Menhinnick on behalf of the Penarth Conservatives Ladies' branch.

Penarth Business and Professional Women's Club met to discuss the outcome of motions put forward recently at their Annual General Meeting.

The members of the Women's Section of the Royal British Legion welcomed Miss Miriam Jowett, OBE, when she spoke of her war time experiences as a Welfare Officer with the British Red Cross, at their meeting.

Cllr R Gwyn Thomas, a bachelor from Colwinston, was elected the new Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan Borough Council.

Chris Georgiou of Plassey Street, Penarth, was one of the South Wales Electricity Board team who came second in the national first aid competition.

Mr Paul Barker (Youth and Community Worker) and member of Dinas Powis Youth Centre, last Thursday presented a cheque for £300 to Mr Edward Jenkins Secretary of the Dinas Powis Council of Social Services, towards the Mini Bus Appeal Fund.
