EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of July 14, 1978:

Miss Penarth 1978 is 20-year-old Miss Josephine Prophet, of Westbourne Road, Penarth.

The 13th Penarth Holiday Festival which gets under way tonight is bigger then ever before with the jam packed programme of events stretching over a mammoth 17-day period.

A Midsummer Luncheon was held at the Park Road home of Sir Alun and Lady Talfan Davies last Sunday in aid of the Penarth Promenade Shelter Steps Appeal.

Ranger Guide Julie Wardell, who is shortly to visit Sweden representing the Guides of Wales, received a fund-raising cheque from Mrs Shirley Sutton, District Assistant, and Brownie Guider of the 2nd Llandough Brownies.

Penarth girl, 18-year-old Marie Peart, has embarked on a career with Surrey Constabulary.

Thirteen-year-old Lisa Gee, of Powys Drive, has been tackling feeding two orphaned hedgehogs.
