EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of September 1, 1978:

Employees at BP Chemicals, Sully, have raised £1,836 to buy three IVAC machines for the children's ward at Llandough Hospital. Mr Clive Thompson presented the cheque to Section Administrator, Mr Mark Rees.

Mr Ray Manchip received the Thomas Price Perpetual Challenge Cup from Sarah Lewis, for the best cob, at the recent Dinas Powis Gymkhana.

Roger Denning and Albert Wakeham of the Conservative Club, won the Darts League Summer Doubles Championship played on their home territory.

The 30 teenagers from the Rhymney Valley who made a Franciscan Pilgrimage to Penarth and Dinas Powis presented a Pageant on the Life of St Francis at St Peter's Church, Dinas Powis, St Augustine's Church, and Holy Nativity Church, Penarth on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of last week.

The Tenants Hall at Glyndwr Road, Penarth, was completely gutted by fire on Bank Holiday Monday
