Memories from the Penarth Times of 25 years ago

EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of October 27, 1978:

The income from seaside activities this summer exceeded the expectations of the council by £13,000.

Proposals have now been put forward for a smaller community centre on a new site to service the Harbour View and Royal Close Estate in the north of Penarth.

Dennis Wong and Stephen Evans, of the 6th Penarth Trinity Methodist Scout Group were last week presented with their Chief Scout Awards by District Commissioner, Mr Brian Lea.

A cheque for £625 was presented to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution as a result of a successful auction held at the Cross Keys Inn, Dinas Powis.

When WRU referees assessor Walter Thomas attended in his official capacity at last Saturday's Old Penarthians v Old Tylerians fixture, he anticipated nothing more than a morning of quiet touchline observation.
