EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of December 22, 1978:

Santa Claus and Miss Penarth, Miss Josephine Prophet, greeted the crowds during last Saturday's Christmas parade.

Penarth Town Council is opposing a scheme for the erection of a block of 18 flats on the site left vacant by the demolition of a pair of semi-detached houses at 26/28 Stanwell Road.

Penarth Police were kept busy during last week's severe storms - especially when the high winds set off a large number of burglar alarms in the area.

A tender of £174,662 for a road improvement scheme at Sully Vineyard, between Penarth and Sully has been accepted by South Glamorgan Council's Environment and Planning Committee.

The December meeting of the Inner Wheel Club of Penarth was held last week at the Masonic Hall, with president Mrs Rosa Clemo in the chair.

Mr Idwal Symonds, of "Cwm Pennant", Park Road, Dinas Powis has been appointed to be a member of the National Building Agency.

Winner of the £1,000 jackpot in the Vale Council's lottery number 11, was Mrs June Guest of Wenvoe, who works in Wenvoe Post Office.
