Three young carollers have raised £10 for the RSPCA. Lesley and David Allen and their friend Catherine Lewis, all of Catkin Drive, decided to go carol singing around the Cowslip estate.

Some members of Penarth Town Council have expressed concern that so much of their expenditure is being ploughed into carrying out improvements at the Paget Rooms.

Dinas Powys Methodist Youth Club's Christmas fancy dress competition was won by Cerys Fahey, who dressed as a clown.

A South Glamorgan librarian with 42 years service retired at Christmas; she is Mrs Flora Thomas, of Knowbury Avenue, Penarth, the librarian at the Fairwater branch, Cardiff.

Jeromy Barlow, a senior planning officer with South Glamorgan County Council, has gained top marks in the UK in the Institute of Parks and Recreation Administration final examination.
