Schools have designs on winning top art prizes

PENARTH youngsters have received their rewards for winning entries in the annual Town Mayor's Painting Competition.

Each year, children from Penarth schools can enter the painting competition in one of three age groups: under five years; five to seven years; and eight years and over.

The plaques and cups were presented to each category winner by Town Mayor, Nigel Gibbs.

In the under fives category, Cogan Nursery School came first, second was Bute Cottage Nursery School and third was Victoria Day School.

The runners up were Albert, Cogan, Fairfield, Victoria and Westbourne Nursery Schools.

Winner of the five to seven age group was Cogan Primary School, second was Ysgol Pen-y-Garth Primary School and third was Westbourne School.

Runners up were the Albert, Ashgrove, Evenlode, Fairfield and Victoria Primary Schools.

The eight years and over winners were: first, Victoria Primary School, second Fairfield Primary School and third Albert Primary School.

Runners up were Ashgrove, Cogan, Evenlode, Westbourne and Ysgol Pen-y-Garth Primary Schools.

Individual winners were: Jamie Cross from Albert Road Nursery School in the under five years category; Daniel Carasale from Evenlode School in the five to seven years category; and Charlotte Gonthier from Fairfield School in the eight years and over category.
