EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of April 6, 1979:

Penarth has finally shaken off its label as the drug centre of South Wales, says a local councillor who was closely involved as a voluntary helper with scores of young people caught up in the drug problem some years ago.

Nine of the present 12 Penarth Conservative members on the Vale Council will be seeking to retain their seats in the election on May 3.

President Anne Hawkins, was in the chair for the monthly meeting of Llandough WI and members were pleased to see her after her recent accident.

The new Headmaster of Stanwell Comprehensive School, A P Bartlett, has drawn attention to the school's fine academic record since it went comprehensive.

Margaret Mason was installed as the new Chairman of Penarth Ladies Circle on Monday.

Violet Best, of Railway Terrace, Penarth, was presented with an electric blanket by Red Cross colleagues on her retirement after 22 years as Commandant, and a total of 36 years service, to the Red Cross.
