A new call has been made for the controversial Merrie Harrier traffic lights system to be scrapped entirely - or at least rephased.

Ten-year-old Helen Thorne, of Plassey Street, Penarth, has been successful in landing the title role of Annie in the West End production about Little Orphan Annie currently running at the Victoria Palace, London.

Amended plans for a £65,000 community centre at the Murch Playing Field, Dinas Powis, have now been given the go-ahead by the Vale Leisure Services Committee.

Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother chatted to Lance Corporal Gary Lovegrove of Penarth when she visited the 1st Queen Dragoon Guards at their barracks at Hohne, North Germany.

A piece of land at The Paddocks, Penarth, should be acquired by the Vale Council, the Leisure Services Committee recommended.
