Paving joy

I AM writing to express my bewilderment at the commotion that the new pedestrianised area in the town centre has caused.

Am I alone in thinking that is another brave and exciting step undertaken by the council which brings us closer to the type of town that the Vale of Glamorgan deserves?

I read the comments from local businesses regarding a significant reduction in trade, and while I sympathise I feel that placing subtle sanctions on town centre traders will surely open the door for another excellent supermarket such as Tesco, in the town.

Being a pensioner this will bring several outstanding benefits to myself and other members of my age group as we will be able to get a free bus to the shops and as the shop is bigger it has much bigger signs for us to see.

I would even go so far as to suggest that the site for the new shopping haven could be the grossly underused golf course up at the cliff top, which must be a massive drain on the council's resources, or Cosmeston.

With the local shops slowly ceasing to trade it would also open the door for several new "charity" type shops to open, providing many of us old uns with jobs and also making Penarth the "Charity Shop Capital of the Vale", which would be great for the image of the town.

So I for one say well done to the councillors for the pedestrianised area and let's hope more paving is on the way!!
