Penarth Town Council has bowed to public opinion and dropped its proposal to move its offices from "West House" to the Kymin, at Beach Road.

The cost of a new purpose-built community centre at the Harbour View Estate has now escalated to £80,000.

Vale Leisure Services Committee heard that a start on the walkway planned along the route of the disused Lower Penarth railway line will be made in the current financial year.

Chartered Surveyor Mr Idwal Symonds, of Dinas Powis, has been appointed a director of HTV Ltd, together with Wales rugby star Gerald Davies.

Local artist Mr Victor Roberts of Station Road, Penarth, will be giving lessons in portrait sketching at St Cyres School on six consecutive Thursday evenings.

Penarth Sea Angling Club staged a competition from the Pier and the Beach last Sunday, and fish were found in abundance. First prize went to Derek Clapp of Penarth with a 3lb 12oz pouting.

Fourteen-year-old Neil Munn, of Cedar Way, Penarth, boxing for his Club Splott Adventure ABC, took the 45th Boys Clubs of Wales boxing title at the Rhondda Sports Centre.
