Many of Penarth's large old houses have become under occupied as the size of families has decreased over the years, says a Vale Council report.

Penarth writer John Crosby recently wrote to Princess Margaret to ask if he could interview her on television.

Mrs Gwen Cook was in the chair for the weekly meeting of Penarth OAPs on June 24, when she was supported by Secretary Mrs G Thomas.

Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award holders from the 1st Llandough Rangers Guide Unit, Ranger Guides Julie Salter, Diana Davison, Debra Ray and Jill Rees were presented with their certificates by 1st Llandough Group Scout Leader Brian Wardell.

A menswear shop chain's longest serving employee, 85-year-old Mr Thomas Henry Davies, of Redlands Avenue, Penarth, was recently presented with a solid silver salver as a retirement gift.
