EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of May 11, 1979:

l Penarth electors will go to the polls again on Thursday, May 24, to choose a new Town Council - and nine of the present 12 members are seeking re-election.

l The Rev Tom Davies greeted visitors to "Ardwyn," Dinas Powys, for the South Wales celebrations of the centenary of the National Children's Home, Sisterhood, last week.

l Four Penarth youngsters, Nigel Swaine (10), Alexander Butler (13), Ricky Butler (10) and Jason Kitch (10), all of Stanwell Road, raised £6 for the RSPCA by holding a jumble sale in the garden of Nigel's home.

l Fifteen-year-old Melanie Stone, of Albert Crescent, Penarth, will swim for Wales for the first time tomorrow, when she is in the squad which competes against Northern Counties at Cwmbran.

l Roy Barker crewed by his son Ian in 'Beam' made a strong challenge on Penarth Yacht Club's spring series by winning the fourth and fifth points races last week, both by good margins.
